IronJSMVC: Script ASP.NET MVC in JavaScript using IronJS

Personally, I enjoy writing much of my applications using a statically typed language such as C#. However, I would really prefer to be able to write UI logic and script certain parts of my applications using a dynamic language if I could. I was thinking about this and the following question came to mind: What would it be like to write an ASP.NET MVC application entirely using JavaScript? So I thought I’d work up a prototype using IronJS (a javascript implementation for the .NET DLR.) Download... [More]

Mixing some Dynamic-ness with IronJS in .NET 4

I recently started messing around with IronJS again, and I must say that this project is pure awesomeness! One of the first things I noticed is that when you call the “Execute” methods to run some JavaScript code it returns an “object.” Now, while this works just fine, I would prefer if it returned a “dynamic” object while running against .NET 4.0. There may be some reason that Fredrik Holmstrom (the author) decided to return an ‘object’, so I don’t mean to sound negative, but you have to admit ... [More]

Silverlight: Embed IronRuby within XAML Part 2

In the previous post I explored the possibility of embedding IronRuby / DLR Script within XAML using both an IValueConverter and Custom UserControl. I spent a little more time experimenting with the DLRScriptUserControl I posted, and came up with some small modifications to it that allow UI event handlers to be wired up using a DLR language (such as IronRuby. Loading Assemblies Into the ScriptEngine.Runtime Context Something nice with how the ScriptEngine class allows you to execute a script o... [More]

Intro to IronRuby/DLR Scripting in C# Silverlight 4 Application

I’ve been working lately on figuring out how to add DLR scripting support to a Silverlight 4 application I’ve been working on. The idea is to give it a plugin style architecture, with the plugins being written in a DLR language; currently focusing on IronRuby. I originally searched how to do this, but couldn’t find any recent articles that discuss Silverlight 4. Also, most articles out don’t target Silverlight and more of them discuss IronPython and not IronRuby, even though the DLR stuff is the... [More]

Managed JScript on the DLR from Microsoft is DEAD!! WHY?!??

I’ve been questioning here and there as to what happened to Managed JScript on the Dynamic Language Runtime. The most recent preview release is really old, and it has since been taken out of any further preview releases of the DLR, where as IronRuby and IronPython continue on. No More Managed JScript on the DLR? For some time I never really got any good answers. Well, it’s really sad to hear that apparently Microsoft decided to drop it completely. According the this link, a member on the DLR ... [More]
